Tom's Tiny Terror Tales Page 3

MOTHER’S DAY

Jimmy Bassett adored his mother. At twenty-six his childhood infatuation had turned into a God like worshipping. She had been his whole life. Smothering him in her massive bulk, flowered dresses billowing like wind-blown sails around his scrawny frame. Fatherless, his parental devotion had not been split like his childhood classmates. His every emotion, sadness, anger, elation, were all directed to the only person he felt bonded to.

His move to his own apartment at twenty two was very painful to both him and his mother but, his occupation, medical supplies representative, had demanded too much of his time in the big city. Though the distance that separated them was a few hundred miles his heart was constantly only a few beats away. The telephone, his constant contact with his mother only semi-satisfied his constant yearning for her ample body.

She, on the same hand, kept the much handled photo albums near her at all times when she conversed with Jimmy on the phone. Her caressing plump fingers had soiled the dog-eared pages but she felt so much closer when she let her fingers do the walking. She pretended it was not his Kodak image she was massaging but his warm ever-present body.

Mother’s day, the ultimate holiday for Jimmy was going to be the best ever this year. Mother was coming in by bus at seven p.m. and she was finally going to meet his new fiancé. Loving another person was a unique experience for Jimmy but his constant contact with Judy Butler, his secretary, had gone from mutual respect for the opposite sex to a full blown love affair after a night of drinks at a cocktail lounge after work to discuss a new product line. The alcohol, worked as an aphrodisiac to the young couple as the night drew to a seamy close.

Once back at her apartment the closeness of their business relationship changed into a more personal level than ever before that cemented firmly their new personal relationship. His impromptu marriage proposal just a week before had put a rosy glow on Judy’s cheeks that no amount of cover-up makeup could diminish.

The love for his mother was in a totally separate class than, his love for his fiancé. It was like his heart was divided into two completely separate compartments. The love for his mother was more like the religion he had spurned in his young life. She was an ever-pressing entity that he worshipped every waking moment. Even asleep, her image was in his every dream. He could never get enough of her companionship so, he finally came up with the ultimate plan.

This mother’s day was going to be like no other. Jimmy spent two hours shopping, picking up exotic delicacies, savoring to the palate but disastrous to his meager budget. He wanted the evening to be perfect. Mother was finally going to be here. Jimmy cleaned his apartment with frenzy unheard of in his usual haphazard existence. Judy was due at nine and dinner was to be served at precisely nine-thirty.

The big day had at last arrived and Jimmy hurried to the bus station, his heart fluttering like a newborn chick. “Mother, I’m so excited, you have no idea how much I missed you.”

“Jimmy, you’re looking great!” His mother exclaimed. “The city life has really matured you into a handsome young man.” The sparkle in her eyes twinkled like glittering diamonds reflecting the devotion deep in her heart.

The doorbell at two minutes to nine interrupted Jimmy’s meticulous preparations but, he didn’t mind a bit. The big moment had finally arrived and he could hardly contain his excitement. “Judy, I’m so glad you made it on time. I’ve been on pins and needles since mother arrived. I just know you are going to love her.”

Judy went into the dining room astonished at the elaborate silver and crystal display that glittered in the light from the elegant chandelier. Pouring the chilled champagne into three wine glasses, she reflected on how exciting her life had become. Jimmy’s almost compulsive adoration for his mother she figured was just a slight obstacle to overcome. He was old enough she figured that his childhood love would soon diminish as she lavished more and more love on her new man.

Jimmy entered the room burdened down with a very large silver dome covered serving tray. “Please sit down Judy and I will begin serving.”

“Shouldn’t we wait for your mother? Is she in the bathroom freshening up?”

“That’s why I’m so excited Judy. I finally realized a way that all three of us can always be together. I told you I was having mother for dinner for mother’s day. This way she can always be inside both of us.”

Jimmy lifted the serving tray lid and Judy was still hysterically screaming three hours later.
